This 7 year old chestnut gelding came with a Veterinary diagnosis and had undergone extensive Osteopathy treatment (under sedation) for a whiplash injury to the first cervical vertebrae and a rotation of the pelvis. The horse presented on the day as being mentally over- active and unable to settle into his ‘own space’. He had been sent away to a trainer and come back with white hair growth on both sides of the withers with the most likely cause being an ill-fitting saddle.
During the session it proved very difficult for this horse to ‘switch off’ and relax and he tried every distraction technique available. Eventually he did relax in the session. He licked throughout the entire session, the wall, the handler, the floor, etc and followed this up with 3 or 4 huge yawns. He scratched the gaskins on both sides indicating binqi moving down the hindlegs as I worked for the sacro-iliac joint and area.
The owner states that the day after the session, the horse walked more freely and was generally more relaxed about being groomed, tacked up, etc. A week later the owner stated that he was ‘going from strength to strength … we wouldn’t have believed the difference’.
There seemed to be a lot of residual anxiety evident for this horse that was released, evidenced by the yawning and relaxation. I was content that binqi moved in the body, which was denoted by the itching of the hind legs having felt strongly drawn to clear the lumber area, the SI joint and down the back legs. There was apparent stagnant energy here from the old injury. From the owner’s feedback, this one-off Buqi session had clearly had effect.
