Rescue and rehabilitation

anxious, nervous, horse in poor condition

One of the horses jo has successfully treated with Buqi healing for horses.A Rehabilitation Case

  • Rescued from finishing his final days in a trekking centre
  • Poor condition, muscle wastage, no topline
  • Bony changes in neck and hind-limb joints
  • Very nervous and anxious
  • Starts to carry himself after first buqi session
  • Lots of muscle twitching and even an audible grunt

This quiet, nervous little chestnut has been with his new owner now for nearly eighteen months. She originally met him in a trekking centre, in the West Country, some years ago and she fell in love with him. For four years she would ride only him on her holidays. When she found out he had come to the end of his serviceable days and was about to be put down she persuaded her family that she should buy him and bring him home.

The same horse Jo has treated using Buqi for horses but this time the horse is lying downWhen he got to the yard his owner described his sorry state; he had only one shoe left on, his teeth had been neglected for years, his back showed all the signs of an ill fitting saddle for years and he was very poor indeed. She said, "When he first got into his stable he made a big lump out of the woodchips into a bed in the centre and laid down with his back to us all. He stayed there for about half and hour or so, then got up and had a look around".

When I first met him for his first Buqi session it was clear that his owner was doing all the right things; the teeth had been rasped, she bought a remedial saddle, she'd had the Vet check him, had some manipulation and some physiotherapy. He was still very poor, with lots of muscle wastage along the topline, which may never come back, and he displays some obvious and serious trust issues.

During the first session of Buqi he was wary although he allowed a certain amount of relaxation to unfold. My main aim in that session was to start to clear binqi and stagnation and to give him a sense of relief in the joints and perhaps to gain some movement. According to his owner he was dramatically better the day after that first session and was able to naturally carry his head higher than usual and be perkier than usual too.

I have seen this horse for three sessions now and each time the Buqi helps him a little further. I have been able to work out his main areas of contentions, which are largely through the right side of the body. He has some bony changes in the neck and probably arthritis there too along with his right hind and lower back.

During the last session we observed him relaxing deeply, there was ongoing evidence of binqi moving down the front legs and out from the back, there was muscle twitching, lots of licking and chewing, lengthening and releasing of the neck and at one point he let out a loud grunt.

After his last session his owner describes him as being full of beans and seeming more comfortable in himself. "Yes! He was definitely more at ease in his movements”. She adds, "The interesting thing is, he used to go into right canter quite easily and we had the greatest difficulty with left canter. After you did the treatment and noticed all the stuff in his right side, he now does left canter much more easily, and we're having trouble with his right canter!” (My addition: my projection is that it will change again in time).

This horse is certainly work in progress and he is lucky enough to have an owner who really cares about getting him as comfortable as possible. The Buqi will certainly help with that.
