Dressage Cob - Tight shoulders

  • Bizarre posturing post Buqi session made shoulders free up
  • Sorry past mean't defensive and reactive in tight area
  • A healing crisis to a release
  • Went the 'best ever' a few days after the session

This horse has arrived in the hands of his loving owner having experienced some unpleasant chapters in his background. He is relatively wither-less, with all the associated problems of saddle-fitting, etc. A very guarded character, with extremely tight shoulders, a scar on the left shoulder, and a total sucker for Buqi (we tried massage - but he made his preferences known!).

This horse responded quite uniquely to Buqi. He has been the only one to date who worked significantly worse for a couple of days after the session but then worked the 'best ever' each time after that. So much so, that first time round the owner called the Vet and Physiotherapist to have him checked out but there was nothing to locate. He made some very significant posturing after the sessions which involved lying down with the front legs outstretched (a new behaviour that he had not shown before).

His shoulders were his area of contention, if you tried to touch him at the withers he would violently twitch the area and withdraw away from the handler. The sensations during the session and his subsequent responses reveal that the shoulders held both tension and binqi. As the soft-tissue structures 'released' they have allowed a renewed freedom in the shoulders. After the fourth session he was much improved both immediately after the session and thereafter, and does not reveal the same degree of reactions. This owner has also experienced some work that was done for riders and was delighted with its effects.
